Set Up Galaxy Z Fold 6 By Transferring Data From Old Galaxy Phone
To start, power on your Galaxy Z Fold 6 and place it next to the old device. From the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s set up screen, select your Language, agree to the EULA and privacy policy.
From the resulting page, choose your old device from the list provided. The list includes Galaxy or Android Device, iPhone or iPad and Set Up Manually. You’ll notice a pop-up on the older device, that will detect the Galaxy Z Fold 6 nearby. You can also tap on Set Up on the older Galaxy device.
On the older device, scan the QR code provided on the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s screen. The process will begin as your devices get ready for the transfer.
Verify your identity on your Galaxy Z Fold 6. Enter your old devices PIN, password or pattern to go to the next step. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 will pick up the Wi-Fi settings of your older device and connect to Wi-Fi automatically.
You’ll then be prompted to copy data from your older device. Tap on Next to proceed. Do the same for Smart Switch by tapping on Next and Allow for the Smart Switch permissions.
A prompt will come up to install and set up Smart Switch on your older device. Do this if you haven’t, by using the pop-up to install on your older device. If you had downloaded Smart Switch and it has an update, you should see the update option.
Under the Transfer Data page, choose Wireless or Cable. Wireless uses Wi-Fi, while the cable should use a Type-C to Type-C cable connected to your devices. We recommend you to choose Cable as it is faster than wireless. Use the cable that came in the box of the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Verify the data transfer on your older device, by selecting Connect. The transfer will begin after you choose the data you want to transfer.
Choose Everything, Just Calls, Contacts and messages or Custom and tap on Next.
Set Up In the Background
Incase you receive the Back up Your Messaging App Data for WhatsApp page on the Fold 6, tap on Next as you can always do this later.
Enter your Secure Folder password on the older device to transfer the secure folder to the Fold 6. You can also tap on Skip if you don’t want to go through with this option.
As the data transfers, make sure you don’t disconnect the cable at any point, until the process is complete.
Finally, tap on Agree and on Accept to agree to the Google Services Terms and Policies, Advance Intelligence and Samsung Service permissions. Tap on Finish.
You will be let into your Galaxy Z Fold 6, but the transfer will continue in the background. Don’t disconnect the cable.
Once the data transfer is complete, it’s crucial to perform a thorough check to ensure that all your essential data has been successfully migrated to your Galaxy Z Fold 6. Verify the integrity of your contacts, photos, videos, messages, and apps to avoid any potential discrepancies.
You can also continue setting up other items you may have skipped, as you wait for the transfer to complete.
